Hurricane Preparedness Week — Part 1: Determine Your Risk

Pacific Ocean hurricane season starts May 15, and Atlantic Coast hurricane season starts June 1.

But the time to start preparing for hurricane is well before it happens. To that end, May 7-13 has been designated Hurricane Preparedness Week. Today through May 13, we will be posting a daily tip on how to prepare.

Today’s post is titled “Determine Your Risk.”

Find out today what types of wind and water hazards could happen where you live, and then start preparing now.

  • Live on the coast? You are most at risk for extreme winds and flooding from rain and storm surge during a hurricane.
  • Live inland? You are at risk for wind, thunderstorms, flooding, and power outages during a hurricane.
  • Hurricanes not only result in high winds, but floods, too. If you see a flooded path: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
  • Hurricane watch = conditions possible w/in the next 48 hrs. Learn how to prepare:
