Open Enrollment Season is Upon Us

We have entered the season of open enrollment!  (My favorite time of year…..NOT.)  Open enrollment comes with stress about so many things – are we in compliance, have we communicated everything to our employees, premium increases, and Health Care Reform.

Open enrollment isn’t all bad though.  It is a great opportunity for you to show your employees all of the benefits you provide to them (on top of their paycheck) and communicate how valuable they are to the company.

  • Here are some tips to help ensure an efficient and effective open enrollment season…
  • Use open enrollment to reinforce the value of your health and benefits program.
  • Look at the timing. When does your current plan expire?  Choose your effective date for coverage.
  • Understand the implications and scenarios of health care reform – are you in compliance, do you need to make any changes?
  • Focus on employee communication – Communicate about deadlines and offer reminders to stay on track.
  • Provide a Summary of Benefits and Coverage (PPACA compliant) to all eligible employees.
  • Follow up with employees to ensure they received all the necessary information, including ID cards.
  • Check eligibility for small business tax credits.
