Strovis welcomes Mark A. Stevens as chief marketing officer

Mark A. Stevens, an award-winning communications professional for more than 25 years, has been named chief marketing officer for Strovis Holdings and its subsidiary companies.

As CMO, Stevens will oversee the marketing and public relations needs for Georgetown-based Strovis Holdings, which, under Strovis Insurance, offers home, auto, business and commercial insurance to the public and, under Strovis Benefits and Strovis Payroll, provides human resources and payroll services to companies in 23 states. In South Carolina, the company has offices in Georgetown, Summerville and Murrells Inlet.

Originally founded as Unistaff Administration Inc., the company changed its named in 2014 to Strovis but continues to provide payroll and human resource outsourcing services for companies in multiple states. Over the years, the company’s business model continued to progress, and Strovis Holdings now represents three entities: Strovis Payroll, Strovis Insurance and Strovis Benefits. The three entities partner to provide a one-stop outsourcing shop for small- and medium-sized employers.

Stevens will work as part of the company’s senior management team.

Stevens is a graduate of East Tennessee State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in communication. In 2009, the university inducted him into the Department of Communication Alumni Hall of Fame.

For nearly 25 years, Stevens worked as an executive in the newspaper industry, serving as an editor, publisher and CEO at weekly and daily newspapers in South Carolina, Tennessee and Louisiana. Most recently, he served as executive editor of five newspapers published by Georgetown Communications – The Georgetown Times, the South Strand News, the Inlet Outlook, the Waccamaw Times and The County Chronicle. He served as publisher at two Tennessee newspapers, The Erwin Record and the Elizabethton Star.

In his newspaper career, the companies he oversaw won more than 500 awards of excellence in journalism, advertising, public relations and historical preservation. He personally has won top awards for news, editorial, feature, sports and column writing.

Most recently, he oversaw The Georgetown Times’ most successful year ever, earning more than 50 awards for journalism excellence. At the South Carolina Press Association’s annual awards, held in March, the Times was awarded the coveted President’s Award, the first time in the newspaper’s more than 200-year history.

He is the author of several history books, including “The Clinchfield No. 1: Tennessee’s Legendary Steam Engine,” an Amazon top seller and published by Charleston-based History Press.

Stevens is married to Amy Stevens, vice president of marketing and communications for Tidelands Health. They live in Pawleys Island.
